Hello Everyone! For this Genius hour project Aidan and I have decided to create a highlight film to commemorate our State Championship run. We will collect highlights, combine and edit them, and then ultimately put them together with music. Our plan is to then burn the film on to discs and distribute them to our teammates so they too can look back and remember all the memories we made together. In the first week, we created a group chat for our teammates to comment their best plays in. We believe that once we have all the plays picked out, most of our project will be spent editing them. We have also brainstormed some songs that we wanted in there. Songs like "No Sleep Till Brooklyn" by the Beastie Boys and "Kickstart My Heart" by Motley Crue are two great choices football films, and they will bring back memories for many guys as we listened to these songs everyday in lifting. Our next move is to put all the highlight films into categories such as big hits, long ...

This week I have focused on refining my skills and making sure that the solving is down to muscle memory. I have spent some time thinking about what my presentation will be about, and I think most of it will be focused around perseverance when frustration strikes. Anyways, I want to thank you all for following me on my Rubik's cube quest, and I hope I have inspired you to solve one in the future!

I can now solve the entire cube without the help of a guide! As stated earlier, the last couple of algorithms were extremely lengthy and required some memorization. When I started on this journey, I honestly wasn't sure if I was going to be able to do this. I was very frustrated in the early beginnings, but I kept working at it. That's the cool thing about genius hour. There's no giving up when you get frustrated. You must persevere in order to finish the project no matter what it takes. This project has taught me a lot about myself and showed me that I am capable of learning a difficult task by myself without any help from others. I am proud of myself for learning this skill. I hope that you experienced similar feelings after completing your project!

I am now able to solve the entire yellow side without the use of a guide! This was a fairly difficult process that took the memorization of a couple different algorithms that corresponded with various possibilities that could occur. Now that I am done with this, I will need to memorize the final two algorithms. Once this is complete, the remainder of my genius hour will be spent finding ways to solve the cube faster and more efficiently.

I am still on the memorization process of the last few algorithms to solve the cube. I have remembered F U R U' R' F, which is the algorithm to solve the yellow cross. I am still working on the algorithm that puts all the corners in the right places. This will require the memorization of 14 moves, and will be the hardest algorithm yet. Once again, I am able to solve the cube, but now it's time to solve it without a guide to help me. I believe that I am at a solid point in my project as I am right on track with my planning sheet.

I am now able to solve the whole cube! However, I need the notes in my phone to do so. The final algorithms are extremely lengthy and will require some memorization. Nonetheless, I have solved the cube and it feels great. The next few weeks will be used to memorize these final algorithms and improve on my time to solve. Using the guides on my phone, it takes me about 5 minutes. I want to minimize this to under 3. If I can reach this goal sooner than I expect, I will embark on a pyramid cube. I will keep you posted!

Blog 1.3 Yellow side complete

Although it wasn't easy, I am able to solve the yellow side on my own.  The reason this side has been the most challenging thus far is because there is a few different configurations that can appear.  There is either a yellow dot that appears, a yellow "L," or a straight yellow line.  Each of these requires a different algorithm to solve.  After the straight line is solved, a yellow fish should appear on the top that requires one more algorithm to solve the entire yellow side.  I will continue to practice solving the yellow side, and then move on to the next step which will aligning the corners with their corresponding colors.
